Russia registers 32,136 daily COVID-19 cases

Russia's consumer rights and human well-being watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said that the country has confirmed its first two cases of the Omicron variant.

MOSCOW, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Russia confirmed 32,136 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 9,833,749, the official monitoring and response center said Monday.

The nationwide death toll grew by 1,184 to 282,462, while the number of recoveries increased by 28,070 to 8,530,476.

Meanwhile, Moscow, Russia's worst-hit region, reported 3,134 new cases, taking its total to 1,966,374.

Russia's consumer rights and human well-being watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said Monday that the country has confirmed its first two cases of the Omicron variant, according to the RIA Novosti news agency.

Noting that around 200 million people worldwide have been inoculated with the country's Sputnik V vaccine, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Monday that it is important for the World Health Organization to officially approve the jab.
