LUANDA, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Angolan Health Minister Silvia Lutucuta said on Monday that the government is ready to continue its dialogue with the National Union of Angolan Doctors to put an end to the week-long national strike.

Lutucuta urged doctors to return to their workplaces to guarantee medical assistance, adding that the ministries of finance and public administration, labor and social security are working together to give a positive response to their demands.

More than 3,000 medical and health workers have been on strike in the African country since last week, asking for higher salaries, better working conditions and more professionals in the industry.

The minister said that authorities are making "a deep evaluation" of the salary issue and investing in the training of health professionals.

There are over 5,200 medical professionals working in Angola. As the strike continues, only seriously ill patients can receive treatment in emergency wards. Enditem
