DAMASCUS, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Two children were killed and their mother was wounded on Thursday in a landmine blast in Syria's eastern province of Deir al-Zour, state news agency SANA reported.
The two brothers, aged 4 and 5, got killed by the landmine left by the Islamic State (IS) militants who had been in control of the area, said the report.
Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor reported that Syria is heavily contaminated by landmines, particularly as a result of the civil war that started in 2011.
It reported that the number of civilians killed due to mine explosions between March 2011 and March 2021 is 2,637 civilians, including 605 children and 277 women. Enditem
