DHAKA, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Resolution 2758 of the United Nations (UN) in 1971 to let China take back its lawful seat has promoted the activities of the world's largest international organization, a leading Bangladeshi analyst said Tuesday.

Munshi Faiz Ahmad, former chairman of the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies, called the restoration of China's lawful seat in the UN a "momentous event" in an interview with Xinhua.

This has changed a lot of things for the UN, China and the rest of the world, said the analyst, who was previously the Bangladeshi ambassador to China.

For the UN itself, he said, "this momentous decision meant that it regained its full legitimacy by readmitting almost a billion people that were left out."

This, he added, without doubt, has helped the UN to become stronger and more effective.

Besides, this allowed China to interact with the rest of the world more easily and to start taking up its rightful place in the world, he said.

For the rest of the world, he said, the restoration meant that one of the world's most populous countries again joined them in various efforts to promote common socio-economic development across the world, as well as promoting world peace and stability.

"The genius, potentials and energy of the Chinese people also started contributing to the development and progress of all peoples around the globe," he said.

He noted that China's development has not only helped people in China and many developing countries, but also contributed tremendously to the continuous well-being of the developed countries by providing Western multinationals access to the huge and fast-growing Chinese market.

"So, from many different perspectives, the day China was handed back its rightful place in the United Nations has contributed significantly to all the various positive developments in the world since then," he said. Enditem
