MUMBAI, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- India's biopharmaceutical company Biocon said Monday it has launched a comprehensive care program on children with type 1 diabetes, involving the training of 400 physicians.

The company's subsidiary Biocon Biologics has partnered with the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI) in this program.

According to the company's statement, India has the largest population of children and adolescents living with type 1 diabetes in the world, reaching an estimated over 1 million as of 2019, with the number increasing every year.

As the world celebrates the 100th anniversary of the discovery of insulin this year, a therapy that has turned type 1 diabetes from a once-fatal diagnosis into a chronic, manageable condition, Biocon Biologics has expanded its universal access program to include children suffering from type 1 diabetes from marginalized communities in India, the statement said.
