Canada's COVID-19 cases surpass 1.75 million

Last week, the Ontario government announced it would pause the lifting of capacity limits in remaining higher-risk settings.

OTTAWA, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Canada reported 1,457 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, raising the cumulative total to 1,750,082 cases with 29,349 deaths, according to CTV.

Ontario, the most populous province with a population of 14 million in Canada, reported 552 new cases of COVID-19 and three deaths on Monday.

Monday's report brings the total number of lab-confirmed cases in Ontario to 607,725.

The province's rolling seven-day average now stands at 573, up from 476 at this point last week.

Of the reported 552 new cases, 286 cases involved people who are unvaccinated, 23 were in those partially vaccinated and 31 were in individuals whose vaccination status is unknown. The remaining 212 infections involved people who are fully vaccinated. Of the 552 new cases, 117 were identified in children under the age of 12.

A total of 11,152,122 people in Ontario have received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Quebec, another populous province with a population of 8.6 million, confirmed 509 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number to 434,849 in the province.

Of the new cases, 326 people were unvaccinated, 12 received one dose of the vaccine more than 14 days prior, and 171 received two doses more than seven days prior to their positive test.

A total of 13,406,962 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the province. Some 91 percent of the eligible population has received one dose of vaccine, and 87 percent has completed two doses.

As of Nov. 12, 65,190,046 doses have been distributed, 58,934,402 doses have been administered and at least 28,613,270 people have been fully vaccinated. That's about 74.8 percent of Canada's population.
