BEIJING, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Olympic champions Zhang Yufei, Wang Shun and Li Bingjie will head a 27-member Chinese swimming team to compete in the 15th FINA World Swimming Championships during December 16-21 in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) .
Zhang Yufei, who won two gold medals in women's 200m butterfly and anchored 4X200m freestyle relay within one hour in Tokyo Olympic Games, and her winning relay member Li Bingjie will show up in their favorite events in the six-day competition.
Men's 200m individual medley Olympic champion Wang Shun will try to defend his title for the third time in a row in the 25m worlds.
For the first time, the aquatics gala will also feature three additional FINA disciplines as diving, high diving and open water.
Yas Island will host the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) as well as the FINA High Diving Qualifier, the ultimate leg of the FINA/CNSG Marathon Swim World Series 2021, a brand new Open Water Swimming Mixed Relay and a FINA Diving Team Exhibition.
Quan Hongchan, 14-year-old sweet-heart who dominated the women's 10m platform in Tokyo, and Wang Han, women's synchro 3m springboard champion together with men's world champions Li Zheng and Lian Junjie will compete in the FINA Diving Team Exhibition, which features a mixed team event, with those alternating dives from 3m springboard and 10m platform.
The FINA High Diving event will serve as the final qualifying event for the 19th FINA World Championships, scheduled in Fukuoka, Japan in May 2022.
The final leg of the annual circuit of the FINA/CNSG Marathon Swim World Series will see competitors complete a 10km race, while an innovative mixed relay event will be staged for the first time ever.
