MANILA, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) reported 203 new COVID-19 infections on Sunday, the lowest since May 23, 2020, pushing the number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 2,837,577.
"The low case report is due to the suspension of the operations of four laboratories on Dec. 17 and the failure of 41 laboratories to submit data," the DOH said.
The DOH also reported that 64 more people died from COVID-19 complications, bringing the country's death toll to 50,739. The number of active cases or patients still battling the virus in the country dropped to 9,924.
The DOH reported below 1,000 daily cases since Nov. 24. It reported its highest caseload on Sept. 11, with 26,303 cases.
The Philippines, with a population of around 110 million, has tested more than 23 million people since the outbreak of the pandemic. Enditem
