RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Former Bayern Munich defender Rafinha could join Sao Paulo after parting ways with Brazilian rivals Gremio, according to media reports in the South American country.
Sao Paulo are searching for a right back and Rafinha's status as a free agent has made him a prime target for the financially stricken club, Globo Esporte reported on Sunday.
It added that Sao Paulo's current options for the position - Luis Orejuela and Igor Vinicius - are unlikely to remain in the club's first-team plans after disappointing 2021 season.
Rafinha made 26 league appearances for Gremio following his arrival from Olympiacos in March. The 36-year-old left the Porto Alegre giants last week, just days after their relegation from Brazilian football's top tier.
Sao Paulo finished 13th in the 20-team Brazilian Serie A standings this year, just five points above 17th-placed Gremio. Enditem
