RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Sao Paulo have reached an agreement to sign former Bayern Munich defender Rafinha on a free transfer, the Brazilian club said on Monday.
The 36-year-old's contract will run until the end of 2022, with an option of a one-year extension if both parties agree.
"We've just signed a contract with right-back Rafinha," Sao Paulo president Julio Casares told reporters.
"His technical ability and leadership qualities are vital. He will be available at the start of the pre-season [in January]. His salary is well within our budget and has performance-based incentives."
Rafinha became a free agent after leaving Gremio following their relegation to Brazil's Serie B earlier this month.
Sao Paulo finished 13th in the 20-team Brazilian Serie A standings this year, just five points above the relegation zone. Enditem
