NEW DELHI, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- India's number of cases of the Omicron variant has risen to 200, the federal health ministry said Tuesday.
Among the 200 cases, 77 patients have recovered or migrated, and Maharashtra and Delhi have reported the highest number of cases of the new variant, said the ministry.
None of the Omicron patients have reported severe symptoms, officials said.
India has already stepped up testing and surveillance of all international passengers, especially from "at-risk" nations, in the wake of global alarm over the new strain of COVID-19, known to be highly transmissible.
The Indian government last week called on the public to avoid unnecessary travel and mass gatherings with the Omicron variant "spreading rapidly." Enditem
