JAKARTA, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia confirmed 216 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, raising its tally of infections to 4,260,893, according to the country's Health Ministry.
The death toll from COVID-19 in the Southeast Asian country rose by 11 to 144,024, while 205 more people recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 4,112,040.
The increasing tally of the new cases was dominated by the number in capital city Jakarta with 55 cases followed by West Java, the country's most populous province, with 35 cases, and Central Java province with 25 cases.
More than 152 million people in Indonesia have received their first dose of vaccines, while over 107 million have taken their second dose.
The country has so far administered over 261 million doses including the third booster jabs.
As of Tuesday, the country has confirmed three people infected with the coronavirus Omicron variant.
The first Omicron case was found on an employee at Wisma Atlet emergency hospital, a hospital for COVID-19 patients in Jakarta, who was reportedly infected by a traveler from Nigeria, while the second and third cases were found on men with travel history from the United States and Britain, respectively.
