MOSCOW, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- Russia confirmed 25,264 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 10,292,983, the official monitoring and response center said Wednesday.
The nationwide death toll increased 1,020 to 300,269, while the number of recoveries increased 42,322 to 9,097,521.
Meanwhile, Moscow, Russia's worst-hit region, reported 1,904 new cases, taking its total to 2,009,520.
Anna Popova, head of Russia's consumer rights and human well-being watchdog Rospotrebnadzor, announced Tuesday that 41 cases of the Omicron coronavirus variant have been detected in Russia to date.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin called the situation with the spread of the virus in the capital "calm," adding that the number of cases and hospitalizations continued to decrease. Enditem
