BELGRADE, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Austrian companies are eager to continue investing in Serbia, announced Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz during his one-day working visit here on Saturday.

Kurz, who separately met Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, praised both economic and political partnerships between the two countries, promising more investments as well as support to Serbia's European Union (EU) membership aspirations.

According to the government's press release, Kurz told Brnabic that he "expects significant Austrian investments in Serbia" thanks to good economic and political partnerships.

Moreover, Kurz promised "strong promotion for the European perspective and membership of Serbia in the EU." He also hailed Serbia's success in maintaining economic stability amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the early mass vaccination campaign.

According to the presidency's press release, Vucic thanked Kurz for helping attract Austrian investors to Serbia, specifying that the economic cooperation doubled in the past ten years "largely thanks to Kurz's commitment."

Serbia's trade with Austria in 2020 amounted to over one billion euros, while around 900 companies in the country are Austrian-owned, employing over 20,000 people, according to the data from the Serbian foreign ministry. Enditem
