ANKARA, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Turkish police on Monday launched a new nationwide operation against illegal and bootleg alcohol as dozens died of alcohol poisoning in Turkey.
The Turkish Interior Ministry said in a statement that the police launched the "Poison 2" operation across 81 provinces against illegal and bootleg alcohol, the second nationwide operation since last week.
More than 100 suspects have been detained both in the "Poison" and Poison 2" operations, said the ministry.
The bootleg alcohol has become a matter of grave concern in the country as the death toll exceeded 45 people in the past 10 days.
In October last year, more than 40 people died and over 50 were hospitalized after consuming bootleg alcohol in several provinces in Turkey. Enditem
