"Belfast," "West Side Story" lead film nominations for 27th Annual Critics' Choice Awards

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Kenneth Branagh's comedy drama "Belfast" and Steven Spielberg's musical drama "West Side Story" lead the pack with 11 film nominations each at the 27th Annual Critics Choice Awards announced on Monday.

"Belfast" and "West Side Story" will compete for Best Picture against eight other films -- "CODA," "Don't Look Up," "Dune," "King Richard," "Licorice Pizza," "Nightmare Alley," "The Power of the Dog" and "Tick, Tick... Boom!"

Branagh and Spielberg were among nominees for Best Director Award.

Also picked up as best director nominees were Paul Thomas Anderson ("Licorice Pizza"), Jane Campion ("The Power of the Dog"), Guillermo del Toro ("Nightmare Alley"), and Denis Villeneuve ("Dune").

"Dune" and "The Power of the Dog" earned 10 nominations each this year, followed by "Licorice Pizza" and "Nightmare Alley," each with eight nods.

"We are so proud to be honoring this amazing list of films and the incredibly talented people who made them during this extremely challenging time," said Joey Berlin, CEO of Critics Choice Association, in a press release.

Critics' Choice Awards are bestowed annually by the Critics Choice Association. The group claimed to be the largest critics' organization in the United States and Canada, representing more than 500 media critics and entertainment journalists.

The 27th Critics Choice Awards will be held at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles on Jan. 9, 2022, when the Hollywood Foreign Press Association will also present its 2022 Golden Globe Awards. Enditem
